A 4-inch horse bust hand-carved from natural lapis lazuli and set on a fitted black stone base. The lapis shows the deep ultramarine, golden pyrite flecking and pale calcite drifts that define the stone.
The head is carved alert with the mane swept back in flowing ridges, ears pricked and the muzzle finely modelled. At this scale every millimeter of the block counts, and the carver has oriented the piece so the strongest blue falls across the face and crest.
