An 11-inch horse bust hand-carved from Indian ruby: opaque ruby corundum in matrix, running here from deep plum and crimson through to unexpected teal and steel-grey passages within the same block.
The horse is carved bridled and alert, head turned slightly with the mouth open, reins and buckles worked in relief across the muzzle, ears pricked forward and the neck rising from a squared plinth. The polish is taken high enough to bring out the color transitions without glossing over the stone's natural matrix texture.
