A 14-inch composition of horse busts rising together from a single carved base, worked from natural lapis lazuli: the deep ultramarine stone prized since antiquity, here shot through with golden pyrite flecks and white calcite drifts.
The heads are carved at different heights and angles so the group reads as motion rather than a static row: flared nostrils, bridled muzzles, manes cut in flowing ridges and the base shaped like a rolling wave beneath them. Lapis of this size and color saturation is scarce, and the price reflects both the material and the several hundred hours of carving behind it.
