A vintage-style desk telephone, hand-carved in its entirety from natural green aventurine. Handset, base, keypad, cradle hooks and the curl of the cord are all shaped from stone: there are no cast or assembled parts.
The aventurine here runs to a deep forest green with warm ochre and near-black inclusions, polished to a high gloss that reads almost like enamel. Carving a hollow, cantilevered form like a telephone handset in a brittle natural stone is genuinely difficult work, and it is what makes this piece unusual rather than merely decorative.
