A compact 7-inch Shiva head hand-carved from blue quartz and mounted on a contrasting black stone base. The quartz runs from steel to periwinkle blue with cloudy natural drifts through the body of the piece.

The face is carved in serene meditative repose: eyes closed, the tripundra and third eye marked on the brow, the jata coiled into a high bun above, elongated ears and a serpent worked around the neck. At this scale the carver has to hold the proportions of the face precisely, and it is the reason a small head can be as satisfying as a large figure.

An accessible entry point into carved gemstone art and an easy piece to place: a desk, a bookshelf, a bedside table, a small altar, or a thoughtful gift that ships without freight complications.

One of a kind. Height: 5 inches. Width: 7 inches.

Hand-carved from a single block of natural gemstone in India and hand-polished to a soft luster. Because every block of stone is unique, the color, banding and inclusions of the piece you receive will vary slightly from the photographs. That variation is the signature of a genuine natural stone carving. Dust with a soft dry cloth; avoid harsh chemicals and prolonged direct sunlight.
