This 9-inch Lord Shiva is hand-carved in natural sodalite, a deep royal-blue stone threaded with white calcite veining. No two blocks vein alike, so the pattern across the figure is unique to this piece.
Shiva is shown four-armed and seated in meditative repose on a rocky base, with the trishul-bearing arms raised, the coiled jata crowning the head and serpent detailing worked into the ornaments. The carver has kept the face soft and still, which is the hardest part of the work and the reason this piece reads as calm rather than ornamental.
Sodalite is linked with clarity of thought and truthful expression, making this a natural fit for a meditation corner, a study, a yoga studio or a home shrine. It sits equally well on a bookshelf against warm wood or a pale wall.
